Labels: printed

Printed labels can be made from almost any material that can be printed on. The most common materials are canvas, cotton, nylon, polyester, TyvekŪ, satin or synthetic acetates. Your Talon International representative can help determine the best material for your usage.

Manufacturing Process

Printed labels are most often made on to flexographic presses, which allows printing on different materials in a continuous manner with up to 8 different ink colors, including the 4 process colors needed to create full-color photographic images. Labels are printed on a roll format and then cut and folded in very similar fashion as woven labels. To achieve the accurate color often needed for brand identity and similar items, "spot" colors can be specified using the Pantone Color Matching System (PMS). For quickest turn-around - and when quality is not crucial - printed labels can be computer-printed using dot matrix or laser printers. This is a good option for some care/content labels.

Special Considerations

WASHABILITY Most printed labels are designed to tolerate home wash, but may not be as durable as woven labels, and should be tested prior to commercial wash. Many printed labels will not survive intense denim washes. For care/content labels, it's essential that typography survive commercial wash because retailers won't accept garments missing legally required information. If you're extremely concerned about durability and longevity, a woven label may be your best option.

Development Cycle

ARTWORK Like woven labels, Talon International needs artwork to create your label. Our expert graphics department can create artwork, or you can submit your own as either hard copy printed ("camera-ready art") or as a computer file in one of the graphics programs such as Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator. (For labels with small or substantial typography, files created in Illustrator or Quark Xpress are preferred).

SAMPLES In most circumstances, we can create actual pre-production printed label samples in about 5-10 working days, including 2-5 days for plate making. A separate plate must be made for each garment size to be indicated.

SAMPLE SET-UP CHARGES $40 per ink color + $75 sample charge
