There are four parts to every snap:
Cap The top portion of the snap, which features your logo, type or artwork if desired.
Socket The under part or cradle of the cap. This is joined with the cap, but sits on the opposite side of the fabric in order to receive the stud.
Stud Gets fastened to the fabric with the post, when pushed together with the socket, which in turn acts as a locking mechanism.
Post This pushes through the fabric to hold the stud in place.
Brass The most common and most durable material for snaps.
Steel Steel snap caps are stringer than brass and approximately 20% cheaper. However, steel is susceptible to rusting when exposed to moisture for longer periods of time.
Nylon Nylon snaps are ideal for infant apparel and other garments requiring a lighter material, and they can be molded into almost any custom color you can imagine. Although the unit cost is similar to brass, nylon snaps do require very expensive moulds.
