Snaps: manufacturing process

As with brass tack buttons and rivets, the cap of the snap is stamped. The other 3 components are die cast. In almost all cases, it's only the cap that's custom-made. The 3 under parts are standard and have already been manufactured.

Nylon snaps are made using an injection-molded process. A hardened steel die is cast, and then the plastic is injected into the mold creating the shape or design. These can be manufactured in a wide variety of PMS colors or even custom colors. You have a choice of smooth, matte, glossy or slight textured surface.
